Publisher's Liability Insurance.
A valuable benefit which provides Non-Members with yet another tangible reason to join the Canadian Business Press. Subject to a claims review, CBP Members will receive a 50% discount off the standard Reciprocal premium for publications published monthly or less, and 25% discount for publications published more than once a month. Click here for full details.
Access Copyright.
Members can apply to become an Access Copyright publisher affiliate to receive royalties for your published works that are copied under Access Copyright licences. Each year, Access Copyright receives royalties that, due to insufficient information, can't be attributed to specific Canadian copyright owners. These royalties are pooled and divided among copyright owners who were affiliates of Access Copyright. They may also act on your behalf to protect your rights by following up on reported infringements of your copyright and taking action which is necessary or advisable. To become an affiliated rightsholder download and print the affiliation agreement and form and mail original to Access Copyright.
Get
that extra edge.
Budgets are tight. Technology is changing everything. You have to
work smarter and faster just to stay even. To get ahead requires
an extra edge. CBP was formed to protect and advance the
professional, technological and educational interests of business
and professional publications and to help build an economy in
which they can flourish. To give them that extra edge.
CBP
gets the job done.
CBP is an action-oriented association that zeros in on the
pressing needs of business publishers in Canada. The Association
acts for the industry in meetings to develop standards, to present
the case for business publications to governments, related
organizations, your clients, agencies, the media and the public.
Together its members accomplish what cannot be done individually.
Members receive real value through lobbying, educational seminars,
newsletters, networking, original research, and many other
services.
Encouraging
excellence.
You could say that the Kenneth R. Wilson Awards helped put CBP on
the map. For over 50 years, the finest business writers and graphic
designers in Canada have been honoured by their peers. The gala
awards presentation dinner brings recognition to the inspired
minds behind business publishing and to the industry as a whole.
Take
postal rates.
Everyone in the business has a Canada Post story. CBP is on the
case. Your support enables the Industry Association to champion
member interests - to push for reasonable rates and improved
systems. CBP has lobbied to ensure that the bar coding systems for
magazines are kept simple, efficient and cost effective.
In 2003, CBP secured postal rate assistance
for Request Circulation Publications through the Federal Publications Assistance Program.
How
about education and professional development?
You need lots of all to survive in business publishing today. CBP
proves you don't have to learn the hard way; we offer seminars,
networking and educational events throughout the year. The
information keeps members up to snuff on such important issues as
how to get the most out of the internet, copyright, balance
editorial integrity and advertiser demands, make advertising sales
without discounting the rate sheet, sell key accounts. The goods
are delivered by top experts and the networking alone is worth the
price of admission. Ask anyone who attends.
Lobbying
is also big. CBP
efforts make a difference. The Association works closely with
government departments and agencies that influence the destinies
of publishers. We're monitoring the foreign competition in a major
way, acting as industry watchdog to prevent unfair competition,
and continue to work diligently with the Department of Heritage to
improve the Canada Magazine Fund (CMF) and the Publicatiosn
Assistance Program (PAP).
Research
is a CBP priority. Special
studies are conducted by leading researchers to reveal readership
trends and provide members with pertinent data to aid in their
selling efforts. Good solid, Canadian-based information.
Newsletter. Through
its email newsletter, CBP keeps Members and Non-Members up to
date on activities, industry issues and upcoming events. For a free subscription, click here.
Networking.The
association encourages dialogue among members and offers many
opportunities for active participation, from committee work to
speaking at educational events, to sharing information on a
one-on-one basis with other members.
Get involved. CBP
offers more services and support than you could imagine. Whether
you represent a small, medium or large publishing company, nothing
could be more productive than belonging to a strong group of
like-minded individuals. The difference your membership and
involvement will make is considerable - ask those who already take
advantage of CBP's activities.
